Dear Greater Seattle Surf Families,

In response to the recommendations in the Washington Youth Soccer report on the club and to input from the January 3 all-club meeting, we are implementing a system to provide you with more regular updates on important club activities. Future updates will include additional postings on the website blog and notices of new document uploads to the website.

This update contains information on an informational meeting for team representatives, the Executive Director Search Committee, the filling of Board vacancies, and the January 3rd all-club meeting.

Informational Meeting for Team Reps

We will be holding the first of our monthly informational meetings for the team voting representatives on Tuesday, February 6th (location and time TBA).

Team representatives are the voice of the families for each team.

Many teams do not have a team voting rep and alternate on record. We will be sending a message to team managers to be sure that both a primary and alternate team rep are elected by the families of each team.

This process is described in Section 2.07 of our bylaws. Please note that the term “Member” refers to the entire team.  Each team elects one representative and an alternate.

“Coaches may not be team representatives and no individual may serve as a team representative for more than one Member. For each Member, players who have attained the age of 18 and the family (parents or guardians, who shall collectively have a single vote) of players who have not yet attained the age of 18 shall vote for the primary and alternate team representatives.”

The opportunity to be the primary or alternate team representative must be made available to the entire team. If there is more than one person that volunteers for the primary or alternate position, the team representative will be elected by a majority vote of the families (one vote per family).

The board is finalizing a process for appointment of new board members to fill the current vacancies.
