PLAYERS OF THE MONTH

Our new monthly recognition program celebrates the individuals who best exemplify the three pillars of #WeAreSurf by being enthusiastic, intentional, & together.

GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER 2018 – GIRLS

Kaitlyn Baldwin-McCurdy (G05A) exemplifies the core values of Greater Seattle Surf. “Every time she comes to training she is focused, hard working and encourages others. She’s a dedicated team player who works hard at her craft,” says Goalkeeping Academy Director Val Seid. Coach Mel Craig agrees, “She’s one of the top keepers in the State in our league.”

GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER 2018 – BOYS

This year, Hudson Becerril-Geiger (B09A) made the decision to play full time as a goalkeeper and it has brought much consistency and success to the team.

Coach An Nuon says, “Hudson trains with an intensity that resonates with his teammates and carries over into the game. His ability to communicate in his roll brings everyone together and on the same page.”

Goalkeeping Academy Director Val Seid agrees, “Hudson always has a great attitude and is even more enthusiastic with each session.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER 2018 – GIRLS

While Bailey Matthews (G07A) holds her teammates to a certain standard, she still offers words of encouragement and praise.

Coach Ryan Campbell notes, “Bailey has really made a solid effort to implement possession play. Even when an option is not immediately available, she uses her skills to create passing opportunities and has composure, instead of just randomly kicking the ball up the field.”

Bailey always comes to training and games with tons of energy and passion for the game. She never gives anything less than a 100% effort regardless of the score or what we are doing in training. She is always willing to help guest play with other teams to help out even if it means traveling for an away game.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER 2018 – BOYS

Abdou Fatty (B06B) always greets coaches and his teammates with a smile and a handshake. If there is a collision and someone falls he’ll offer a hand and ask if they are alright. He speaks positively to his teammates and gives them praise.

Coach Walt Antoniuk says, “Abdou is stepping out of his comfort zone in training and games and using his weaker foot when the ball is on that side. He has adopted a growth mindset and moves on from mistakes with focus on doing better the next play.”

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – SEPTEMBER 2018 – BOYS

Christian Sanchez (B06A) plays anywhere on the pitch for the betterment of his team. He works hard to improve himself and those around him. Christian is currently also training with the Sounders Discovery Program.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – SEPTEMBER 2018 – GIRLS

Kate Kresken (G05A) is an attacking center mid who is a catalyst on her team, bringing everyone together to become one strong unit. She has added 2 goals and 2 assists in the past month to help her team beat Crossfire ECNL and tie Eastside FC Academy.

TEAM OF THE MONTH – SEPTEMBER 2018 – GIRLS

The G05A team consistently have a game plan for each match and execute it well. They work hard to build out of the back and to find gaps that allow them success in the final third part of the field. This phenomenal teamwork lead the G05A to defeat Crossfire ECNL and tie the Eastside FC Academy teams so far this season.

TEAM OF THE MONTH – SEPTEMBER 2018 – BOYS

Despite some struggles early on due to injuries, the B06A continued to support each other and weathered the storm well.  As players returned to health, the team got stronger and is now competing well by finding success as a team.

PLAYERS OF THE MONTH – AUGUST 2018 – GIRLS

Natalie Maxey and Bella Anson (G08A) showcased the clubs core values throughout the summer. The girls are intentional in the way they practice by training on the edge at every session. This mentality inspires the players around them to challenge themselves and maximize the touches they get throughout the week. When the girls step on the field you can see the level of play increase – this generates enthusiasm within the entire team to train like an elite athlete. Coach Simon Craig states, “I feel that a large part of our teams’ growth throughout the summer was a direct result of the leadership of these two girls. The 08A team is starting to look like a family, the bonds are stronger now than they have ever been.”

PLAYER OF THE MONTH – AUGUST 2018 – BOYS

Will Matrone (B08A) showed an internal motivation and desire to keep trying, even when faced with playing against older and more physical opposition in this summer’s Bigfoot Challenge.  Coach David Hartshorn proudly beams, “Will continuously provides 100% effort and always looks to put the interests of the team first.”

TEAM OF THE MONTH – AUGUST 2018 – BOYS

This summer, B08A were Rush Cup Champions and had a very positive showing at Snohomish Bigfoot Challenge, even though they were playing a year-up.
“In Bigfoot Challenge, they displayed togetherness, and intention with the way they approached each game, and continued to stay enthusiastic despite the physical challenges they faced,” says Coach David Hartshorn.

TEAM OF THE MONTH – AUGUST 2018 – GIRLS

The G08A girls grew closer throughout the summer. Coach Simon Craig says, “We had moments of success at each tournament. The girls are excited and enthusiastic about training and games. We train with more purpose and intention and the bonds between teammates are stronger.”
