On January 7, 2019, DeAndre Yedlin announced the Watch Yedlin Sweepstakes, his first major fundraising program as the new Club Ambassador for Sound Football Club (formerly Greater Seattle Surf). Yedlin curated the ultimate fan experience for the winner- a trip for 2 to come to London for the May 4, 2019 match between Newcastle United and Liverpool FC, including pre-match breakfast with Yedlin at Dean and Daniela’s, ride-along with Yedlin to St. James’ Park, a VIP stadium tour, and a photo taken by the official Newcastle photographer.  Over the course of a month, 658 people donated over $20,000USD for a chance to win.

The sweepstakes winner is Mike Morris, owner of Fuel Sports Eats & Beats, located in Seattle, WA, just a few short blocks from Seattle Sounders home, CenturyLink Field in downtown Seattle, WA.

Mike Morris grew up playing soccer in Spokane but didn’t watch much soccer, except when his father brought him from to catch a Sounders match against the New York Cosmos.  Then, about a decade ago, Morris found out, on MySpace of all places, that the Emerald City Supporters (ECS) were looking for a local place to hang out and watch Sounders games where they could also sing and chant freely. Morris reached out to then ECS founding father, Sean McConnell, to offer up his bar as the new home bar for the fan group and needless to say, Morris quickly became a huge fan and supporter. Over the years, Morris worked closely with ECS former President Greg Mockos to build the ECS partnership with Fuel as their new home pub, even securing a beer sponsor.

When asked about winning the sweepstakes, Morris exclaims, “I am super excited. I’ve never been to England or Europe and I’ve never been to an English Premier League game, but I did a road trip to Salt lake City with ECS once.” Morris is bringing ECS Head of Security Troy Brown with him to enjoy the grand prize. “Troy is a good friend and a big soccer fan, so he seems like the perfect choice. We’re gonna have a blast.” Morris is also looking forward to having his first proper English breakfast with homegrown superstar, DeAndre Yedlin, explaining, “I don’t know what I’ll order. I’ll just take DeAndre’s suggestion and I’ll have what he’s having.”

“As a Sounders fan, and a fan of the National Team, and living in Seattle, it’s great that he’s giving back to the community that he was raised in,” Morris says of DeAndre’s decision to be Club Ambassador for Sound FC, ” I think it’s an excellent organization a great thing to donate to.”

Morris invites everyone to swing down to the bar for the Brougham Block Party on Saturday, March 2nd before the Sounders open their season against the brand new FC Cincinnati.
